CASA  /  HOUSE RULES NO. 01

STOP MAKING
EVERY HOUSE BEIGE.

A room can feel calm without disappearing.

Let me start by saying that there is nothing wrong with beige. Beige can be warm, soft and beautiful. It gives a room space to breathe and allows special objects to stand out.

THE PROBLEM IS NOT BEIGE ITSELF.

The problem is when every home starts to look exactly the same.

The same cream sofa. The same pale rug. The same perfectly styled coffee-table books. A vase positioned at precisely the right angle, but nothing that tells you who actually lives there.

Somewhere along the way, we started decorating our homes as if they had to be ready for strangers. Ready to be photographed, approved of or eventually sold. We learned to make safe choices—not because we loved them, but because nobody could dislike them.

HOUSE RULE

YOUR HOME IS NOT
A SHOWROOM.

01  /  PERSONALITY

A HOME SHOULD LEAVE CLUES.

The most memorable homes reveal something about the people living inside them.

A slightly strange lamp found at a flea market. A painting that is far too large for the wall. A stack of books that never stays perfectly organised. Plates collected from different places rather than purchased as one matching set.

These are the things that give a home personality. They may not always be the most practical or universally tasteful choices. That is precisely what makes them interesting.

A home should leave clues: where you have been, what makes you laugh and what you find beautiful—even when nobody else understands it.

02  /  BE BRAVE

START WITH ONE
BRAVE CHOICE.

Adding personality does not mean repainting every wall bright red or filling every corner with objects.

Choose the striped chair instead of the safe one. Hang the artwork you keep thinking about. Paint one door a colour that makes you happy. Put the odd little ceramic object somewhere visible instead of hiding it in a cupboard.

Let that choice lead the rest of the room.

Colour does not have to make a space feel chaotic. A deep green, rusty red or warm pink can make neutral surroundings feel richer and more intentional. Even a predominantly beige room becomes personal when it contains something unexpected.

MORE PERSONALITY,
PLEASE.

Make choices that feel like you—even if they are not the safest choices.

Use the nice glasses on a Tuesday. Hang the enormous artwork. Mix colours that are not supposed to match. Keep the slightly weird object.

Your home does not need to be perfect.
It should be personal.
